"Girl Meets World" premiere ranks as the most-watched series ever on the Watch Disney Channel app and the most downloaded Disney Channel series preview on iTunes, according to Variety. The "Boy Meets World" spinoff "Girl Meets World" drew in a solid 5.2 million viewers for its premiere on Friday, June 27.

"Girl Meets World" has been available on the Disney Channel WATCH app and on iTunes since June 23.

"Girl Meets World" aired at 9:45 p.m., after original movie "Zapped," featuring two of the channel's latest stars, Zendaya and Spencer Boldman. "Girl Meets World" launched off of the movie's success, drawing in 5.2 million viewers. Disney Channel concentrated on the young demos, making it the top series launch of 2014 in this category. The "Boy Meets World" spinoff drew 2.3 million viewers in kids 2-11, 1.8 million in kids 6-11 and 1.7 million in tweens.

"Zapped" opened at 8 p.m. to 5.7 million viewers, making it the top-rated cable telecast of the year to date in kids 2-11 (2.9 million), kids 6-11 (2.3 million) and tweens 9-14 (2.1 million). However, "Zapped" fell short of Disney Channel's retro beach-party musical "Teen Beach Movie," which garnered 8.4 million viewers in its July 2013 debut, Variety reports.

Prior to "Girl," the record-holder on Watch Disney Channel was "Teen Beach Movie."

Ben Savage recently told TIME that "Girl Meets World" is "different" from "Boy Meets World."

"It was going to be 'Boy Meets World' for a brand new generation of kids. I think some of our fans - at least the people that grew up with 'Boy Meets World' - are expecting it to be 'Boy Meets World' where 'Boy Meets World' left off. But really, this show is aimed at younger kids and it's on the Disney channel, and it's hopefully going to influence a new generation of kids. Some of the most meaningful tweets and messages and letters I've gotten from people are really from people who grew up with 'Boy Meets World' and are looking forward to watching 'Girl Meets World' with their own children."
