Upcoming Blackberry Phones 2014: Is The 'Passport' The Answer To Company's Sales Woes? Square Display Promises An 'Even Better Viewing Experience'

One of the year's most intriguing and upcoming Blackberry phones for 2014 is the Passport, which was recently announced by the company's CEO John Chen itself.

While the device looks rather awkward with its 4.5-inch square display, the Canada-based manufacturer is not at all bothered about it.

In fact, in a new report by GSM Arena, Blackberry promotes the screen of its 'Passport' and claims that while rectangular displays provide a good viewing experience, the square display of the Passport will give an 'even better viewing experience'.

In addition, the company also compares the display to the IMAX movie screens, which in turn led them to dub the Blackberry Passport as the 'IMAX of productivity'.

This year, Blackberry has done what most people thought they would not be able to do after the flop that was the Blackberry Z10. It managed to get a hold of its core, and now it still develops smartphones with the help of some makers like Foxconn.

While the Canada-based manufacturer has not been releasing devices to larger markets such as the US and EU for now, it looks like it is doing a good job in emerging markets, especially for the Blackberry devices it launched in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Now, with the Passport, Blackberry aims to get back to the smartphone map with a unique device that would draw in its loyal fans. Aside from the huge square screen, the Blackberry Passport also brings back its famous QWERTY keypad, although this time the keys are slighly more cramped because of the limited space.

While the hardware is somewhat interesting, one downside of the Passport even before it becomes official in markets is the underperforming Blackberry OS. Since failing so bad last year, its closest competitor Windows Phone OS has improved significantly in sales.

We'll bring you more details about the Blackberry Passport in terms of pricing and availability.
