2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Greg Monroe Most Likely To Change Teams! Pistons Are 'Stuck' With Josh Smith And Frontline Shuffle Is Required!

Despite all the attention on the two biggest names, the 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions are not at a standstill with regards to the other players. Greg Monroe is one of the biggest names and he has a strong agent who will push to get him the max contract.

There are many teams that have ample cap space to give Greg Monroe a high salary. The Cleveland Cavaliers for example, has cleared cap space for LeBron James with more than $ 20 million. If the King does not go back home, the Cavs can look around.

This was a topic among ESPN's panel of experts. Which restricted free agent is most likely to change teams?  4 out of 6 chose Monroe. Some of them are Chad Ford, ESPN draft expert; George Karl, former NBA coach and Tom Penn, salary cap expert.

"Ford: Greg Monroe. The Pistons are saying the right things about wanting him back, but everyone knows that it would be better for all parties involved if he moved on. The Pistons want value out of every deal they make, and I'm not sure that will be possible if they try to re-sign Monroe."

Stan Van Gundy is smart and he knows that he should always say that he wants to keep a player to keep the trade value up.

"Penn: Greg Monroe. There are very few quality bigs on the market. There are multiple teams with cap space looking for size. If Bosh stays in Miami, they'll look to Greg Monroe. If someone offers him a front-loaded offer sheet, the Pistons will have trouble matching."

Contracts are not always divided equally according to the number of years. Teams with cap space can offer 'poison pill' contracts designed to hurt the team holding the rights. Jeremy Lin's contract with Houston is an example. It was structured so that the Knicks would be hard-pressed to match it.

A team can offer Monroe an offer sheet with big first-year payouts. Since Detroit has other roster needs, they would find it hard to spend so much on just one player at this time.

"Elhassan: Greg Monroe. I've never been sold on how he fits in Detroit, even if the Pistons manage to extricate themselves from Josh Smith. Monroe doesn't have a reliable jumper, and he's not solid defensively. He's better off starting fresh on another team than trying to be a square peg in a round hole for the Pistons."

Again, the issue of fit. The Pistons need to spend next year on keeping Andre Drummond. They won't have enough to get shooters and wing scorers-something the roster really needs. Having two talented young centers AND Josh Smith is wasted talent.

"Karl: Isaiah Thomas and Greg Monroe! Both guys will find a new team that will pay them well and support their continued development. I think Parsons and Gordon Hayward get matched. Monroe and Thomas are gettable."

The former NBA Finals coach is also speaking from a 'team needs' perspective. Of all people he knows it's not just collecting talent but making them work seamlessly with each other. Parsons and Hayward are perfect fits for their teams, not so with Monroe.
