Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Release Date: 'Mini' Flagship Finally Hits US Market, But Is It A Bit Too Late?

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact release date was expected as early as February or March this year after Sony announced it at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Apparently, they already had a plan to release the 'mini' flagship almost half a year later.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has finally made its way to the US market, and interested buyers can check it out from Sony Mobile's website.

Earlier this year, thousands of Sony and Android fans were more than happy that the Japanese manufacturer has finally announced an international version of its previous Xperia Z1 flagship, which was announced at the IFA event in Berlin last year.

However, no one knew it would take the device this long to reach US shores.

In the report, aside from China, the biggest smartphone market would be the US. However, Sony thinks otherwise.

In an announcement later last year, Sony stated that it would be focused on bringing its devices to its strong market points, which include Japan and other Asian neighbors, as well as the UK and European markets in general.

And true to its word, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, the fastest smartphone with 4.3 inches display, will now be available for the US market, six months after it was announced.

In case you need a refresher, the Z1 Compact boasts an HD (1280 x 720) resolution display, 2GB RAM, a Snapdragon 800 chipset, and quad-core CPU. It also has the same 20.7MP shooter of its older and bigger sibling, water and dust resistance, and 16GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

But before you decide to get the Z1 Compact, remember that an earlier report revealed that its successor, the Xperia Z3 Compact would be available in stores by September - in Germany. Whether Sony would change its stance regarding market releases or not, we'll never know until then.
