As K-Pop experienced an enormous growth in popularity in the recent years the wave has reached even the Bay Area. K-Pop convention was held in UC Berkeley for two days on January 28-29 organized by UC Berkeley K-Pop club, K-Popular.

The convention gathered more than 300 students proving the popularity of K-Pop once again. The theme of the first convention K-POP Convention, KPOPCON, “Hello” was the first event of its kind in the US.

The mission of KPOPCON is to celebrate and discover the exciting, continuously evolving Korean entertainment world in a social and academic setting. The convention featured workshops ranging from learning choreography, to dissecting the 2nd Hallyu and how to start your own K-Pop organization at your university. Guest speakers were invited from across the country and Canada, including professors, journalists, and super-fans.

It’s interesting to see how the Hallyu wave and phenomenal growth of K-Pop fans in Southeast Asia, emerging European and Latin America will spread out in the States.
