Doctor Who Cast Update: Jenna Coleman Films 'Death Comes To Pemberley,' And Will Matt Smith Leave After 50th Anniversary?

Fans of "Doctor Who" have received a slew of news as of late, including a new Doctor with Peter Capaldi. But what are the current cast of "Doctor Who" up to lately?

As previously reported, the current "Doctor Who" companion and cast member Jenna Coleman is busy filming "Death Comes to Pemberley."

Jenna Coleman will portray Lydia, the younger sister of Elizabeth Bennet from the iconic novel "Pride and Prejudice." The 3-episode mini-series is based on P.D. James' 2011 novel acting as a sequel to the Jane Austen story.

But unlike cast member Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman is slated to stick around after the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Special, and into season 8.

And while fans are well aware of Matt Smith's limited time on "Doctor Who," a theory is growing popular that Matt Smith may actually leave the cast earlier than expected.

Matt Smith, who announced his departure from "Doctor Who" earlier this year, is slated to be in the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Special, before Peter Capaldi takes over full-time in season 8.

But, fans seem worried that he may in fact leave by regenerating in the 50th Anniversary Special, as noted by Doctor Who TV.

One piece of evidence is Matt Smith shaving his iconic "Doctor Who" hair for the film "How to Catch a Monster," when he knows full well he will return to continue filming for the BBC series.

"I also heard a rumor on the internet which was about Matt, and that he had already filmed his regeneration scene, and quite a fair group of people mentioned that his final episode was really the 50th anniversary," writes Doctor Who TV contributor Grieg Robertson.

"Yes, it's easy to stick a wig on him, but what if this all another clever ploy by Moffat to cause pain and surprise to the whole fandom? Or is this all just a slight coincidence?"

In addition, this rumor is coinciding with the rumor that Peter Capaldi may have been introduced in a rush because he will make an appearance in the 50th Anniversary. And really, what other reason would that happen except to transition Matt Smith out of the show?

What do you think? Is Steven Moffat lying, or this all speculation caused by the jitters of "Doctor Who" fans everywhere?
