Amazon Kindle Fire Rumors: New Tablet Might Carry MediaTek’s New MT8135, But Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 Processor Still An Option

Amazon Kindle Fire rumors are fueled by a recent report that the online retail giant and tablet manufacturer ordered chipsets from MediaTek’s new product offerings.

DigiTimes reported that the Taiwan-based chip designer has landed orders for its MT1835 quad-core solutions from Amazon for its upcoming entry-level Kindle Fire tablets. The report indicated that the shipments will begin in 2014, according to a news story from Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN).

Although MediaTek dismissed the report, the news is in-line with earlier rumors on when the release date for the next Amazon Kindle Fire is scheduled to occur, which is mid-2014.

Last a month, a leak was made that discussed the specs of the upcoming new Kindle Fire HD tablets, both for the 7-inch and 8.9-inch models, reported Android Community. Similar to both versions is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, which is said to be running at 2 GHz on the new Kindle Fire although its capable of 2.3 GHz clock speeds.

The Snapdragon 800 was expected to be the chip of choice for the rumored new Kindle Fire HDs, as it is also the CPU installed in most of today’s smartphones.

MediaTek, however, seems to still be on the quest for Amazon’s business. The recent rumor of Amazon’s order could be a sign that it’s moves are paying off. Last month, the Taiwanese tech company announced the “True Octa-Core” and the MT8135, the chipset that Amazon reportedly ordered

It seems then that the fight is on then for Amazon’s bucks between Qualcomm and MediaTek, now that the retail giant’s former chip provider, Texas Instruments, is out of the supply chain equation. Although MT8135 is proving to be a real advancement, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is what already has gained mass adoption with numerous devices.
