iPhone 5C Release Date: Why The Budget Apple Phone Makes Sense Against The Android OS

Due to its success in terms of sales, Apple often ignores the fact that the iOS platform only accounts for just 21 percent of the entire smartphone world. However, the widening gap between the number of iPhone and Android subscribers should be a wake up call that numbers is still relevant in the market.

Indeed, more iPhone users purchase apps and products through the Apple Store, but year after year, the number of purchases through Google Play has constantly increased, posing a serious threat to Apple in terms of being the priority of developers.

According to Benedict Evans, the iPhone 5C, aimed at a wider market who can afford a mid-tier smartphone, is Apple's solution against the competition. Poised to be released this fall, this budget iPhone features specifications similar to the main iPhone lineup, but keeps everything less expensive by making a few compromises.

First up, BGR reported that the plastic cover comes in a variety of colors. Most Apple loyalists would surely raise a brow with such finish, but Evans says it is a move to court Android users who cannot afford the expensive iPhone series. Rumor has it that the new budget iPhone would not have the famous Siri, though this comes as one of the minuses to make the product a lot cheaper.

By providing an alternative to Google's operating system, more people would have the opportunity to use Apple's products, which in turn would boost both sales and market share - something it has failed to achieve since Android manufacturers Samsung, HTC, and Sony ganged up on the iOS.
