Samsung Rumors 2013: New Developed Chip Can Make 384GB Phone Storage Possible, Gets Divided Reaction From Consumers

If you own a smartphone, you have probably encountered running out of phone memory because of the apps and data you store in your phone's SD memory. With Samsung's latest developed storage chip, memory problems might just be solved once and for all.

According to tech website Vyralize, Samsung has successfully developed and is currently in the process of mass producing a one of a kind storage chip. Referred to as the world's first 3D Vertical NAND(V-NAND) flash memory, this chip has the ability to store enormous amounts of data to further improve the functions and expand the features of the company's lineup of smartphones.

The Korean managed to improve its CTF architecture, and placed a non-conductive flash layer instead of the usual floating gate that often interferes with signal and data transfers. As a result, the NAND memory is now faster than ever, with an increase of 10 times the usual flash memory's performance.

In addition, Samsung also managed to stack 24 cell layers vertically within the chip, which enables it to place 24 16GB cells in just one chip. This will result in a total of 384GB of potential memory in a smartphone.

But while most Samsung users have gladly welcomed the innovation, there are others who stated that a bump in battery is far more important than having a storage that rivals that of a laptop computer. Some consumers were also commenting on the possible price tag of devices which include this kind of technology.
