Fox Sports 1 Release Date August 17: ESPN's New Competition Is Here 'Goal Is To Get Through Saturday Without Strangling Anybody'

Fox Sports 1 release date is August 17 and ready to bring the competition to ESPN as the somewhat monopoly of sports networks in the U.S. Even though this new 24/7 all-sports channel is coming Saturday, the people behind it have taken a peculiar approach to the anticipation.

The Fox Sports 1 release date has brought co-president of the network, Eric Shanks, maybe nervous or anxious of what is to come Saturday.

"The goal is to get through Saturday without strangling anybody," Shanks told the Associated Press about the Fox Sports 1 release date.

He wasn't the only one behind the scenes that approached the weekend with a different attitude.

"We'll just step over the bodies," responded Bill Wanger, the executive vice president for programming.

As far as the network itself, it is owned and operated by the Fox Sports Media Group division of 21st Century Fox, and will launch on August 17, 2013, replacing the motor sports-oriented channel Speed.

Fox Sports 1 will air an array of live sporting events, including college sports (most notably Pac-12 Conference football), soccer matches, UFC mixed martial arts, and a variety of motor sports events. FS1's schedule will expand to include Major League Baseball, United SportsCar Racing, and FIA Formula E Championship events beginning in 2014, as well as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and United States Golf Association championship events beginning in 2015. FS1 will also feature daily sports information, highlight, and discussion programming, as well as sports-related reality and documentary programming.

"The topic bars and the graphics will constantly be telling you what's going on," Shanks said of FS1. "They may even be paraphrasing what some of the talent are saying, or what some of the guests are saying, so you can get the gist of the conversation even with the sound off."

Fox Sports Live will feature Ephraim Salaam, Andy Roddick, Gary Payton, Jay Onrait, Dan O'Toole, Charissa Thompson and Donovan McNabb.
