Pokemon Mega Evolution VS Digimon [VIDEOS]: Which One Is Better?

As Pokemon X and Y revealed the game-changing Mega Evolution, the first thing many gamers noticed is its similar concept to Digimon.

While many were fascinated with the Mega Evolution addition to battle gameplay, others were concerned that the phrase had been used by Digimon for many many years.

"I struggled to articulate my thoughts as this was something brand new, which had never been considered as a possibility for the Pokemon franchise. Digimon, maybe but not Pokemon," wrote Serebii founder Joe Merrick.

Granted, Digimon and Pokemon are in completely difference spheres, and neither are direct competition, but why did the Pokemon Company choose the term Mega Evolution if a lot of Pokemon fans already know or like Digimon to begin with?

To begin, Mega Evolution for Pokemon does hold differences to Digimon.

For one, the use of Mega Stones is required for certain Pokemon to go into Mega Evolution during battle. And, only a chosen few of the hundreds of Pokemon have the ability to Mega Evolve, with only one allowed per team.

Mega Evolution in Digimon, is a term used for the final stage of evolution (called digivolution) for all Digimon. Every Digimon has a Mega Evolution.

The other difference is while Digimon Mega Evolution is primarily highlighted in the anime, Pokemon will introduce this in Pokemon X and Y 3DS games before the anime airs.

It remains curious that Pokemon would go into a new evolution tactic, much less call it Mega Evolution, but only time will tell how fans respond to this new battle mechanic.

Which do you prefer? Digimon or Pokemon Mega Evolution?
