‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 Cast Spoilers: Shaun Sipos Cast as Aaron, Elena’s ‘Possible New Love Interest' At College?

"The Vampire Diaries" will have a new cast member come season 5, The Warner Bros. TV rep revealed to TheWrap. Actor Shaun Sipos has been cast as Aaron; will he play the new love interest of Elena?

Shaun Sipos will portray Aaron, who goes to college to break away from his dark past, IB Times reports. He will meet and bond with Elena when a student gets killed at Whitmore College, and it's possible their friendship will develop further.

According to E! News, this could create a wedge between Elena and her new boyfriend Damon Salvatore, as they try to make their long-distance relationship work.

As we previously reported, E! Online reports that Elena and Caroline will "experience the death of one of their fellow freshman when they hit college come October."

But the death will lead one of the girls to "meet a possible new love interest."

Sounds like Damon better keep Elena close if he doesn't want to lose her to the "handsome co-ed who may have a connection to the dearly departed," aka the newcomer Aaron.

Actor Shaun Sipos starred in the CW's brief reboot on "Life Unexpected" and "Melrose Place," IB Times reports. He also had guest appearances on "CSI" and "Southland," as well as horror films "Texas Chainsaw 3D," "The Grudge 2" and "Final Destination 2."   

"The Vampire Diaries" returns for season 5 on October 3rd.
