Justin Timberlake Jokes About VMA 2013 Award: ‘This Is The You Got Old Award,' He Says, Receives MTV Video Vanguard Award

Justin Timberlake won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMA 2013 on Sunday night. Justin Timberlake joked about the VMA award when he spoke to MTV News before his VMA performance.

"This is the 'You got old award,'" Justin Timberlake joked about the Vanguard Award, MTV News reports. "No, in all seriousness, when you look at the people I'm included with [in] receiving this award, I don't feel like I'm worthy of it, but I'm not going to pass it up."

JT added that the award had him in a nostalgic mood - maybe he was foreshadowing his reunion with 'NSync band mates?

"To come here and perform again, there's a little bit of nostalgia for me," Justin Timberlake said. "It feels like a good time to be back at the VMAs."

According to MTV News, the Vanguard Award is considered the VMAs' highest honor. It has previously been awarded to music-video innovators like its namesake, as well as mention Madonna, U2, R.E.M. and the Beastie Boys, the website reports.

After receiving the award, Justin said during his acceptance speech: "I don't deserve this award, but I'm not going to give it back. I'm taking this home. Every video director that I've had the fortune of working with, I owe this award to you."

"Half of the moon men that I've ever won, I won with those four men right there [he points to 'NSYNC]. So above all else - we can keep it at my house - but I'm going to share this award with them. This is truly an honor. Thank you so much," Timberlake continued, according to Hollywood Life.

At the 2013 VMAs, Justin Timberlake took the stage and performed "Take Back the Night," "SexyBack," then a medley of "Like I Love You," "My Love," "Cry Me a River," "Senorita," "Rock Your Body," "Another One Bites the Dust," and "Pusher Love," Entertainment Weekly reports

Then Justin was joined by his 'NSync band mates, and they took everyone down memory lane with performances of "Girlfriend" and "Bye Bye Bye," along with original choreography.

JT finished up his performance by serenading the crowd with his recent hits "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors."
