‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder Calls Himself One Of The Few ‘Pretty People That Can Act Well;’ ‘Not Thrilled’ With ‘The Originals’ Spin-Off

If you've been keeping up with "The Vampire Diaries" season 5 spoilers, then you know that this season will see the exit of the Originals characters on "The Vampire Diaries," including Klaus and Rebekah. The Originals will instead feature on a spin-off series that premieres this October.

Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore on the CW series "The Vampire Diaries," said he's not happy with the decision.

"I'm excited for Julie [Plec], and for Joseph and all my people," Somerhalder told Digital Spy, "but I'm a selfish actor - I'm not a producer on the show, I'm not a writer. My only concern is Damon, and my show.

"Now, they're going to be taking these characters that mean so much to our show. I'm insanely happy for everyone, but I'm not thrilled. Not that I mind sharing, I just don't want to lose all these amazing actors on our show."

The spin-off series "The Originals" will focus on the Mikaelson siblings Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).

Somerhalder also commented on the difficulty of finding new characters for "The Vampire Diaries" to make up for the absence of Morgan, Gillies and Holt, Digital Spy reports.

"Who are the other people who are gonna be coming on the show? Are they gonna be good? Because it's The CW, and everyone has to be pretty, and there aren't a lot of pretty people that can act well," Somerhalder said.

"I'm not joking! I'm one of them, that can act well. Not to sound s**tty about it, but casting is always tough. I feel like they worked so hard on casting this show... and hopefully they just continue to put great actors in."

But Somerhalder must be pleased with the new casting so far, because he tweeted today: "Love these damn people. #TVD cast&cree truly amazing people"

"The Originals" will premiere on the CW right after "The Vampire Diaries" season 5 premiere on Thursday, October 3.

"The Originals" will then shift to Tuesday nights, beginning on October 8.
