Samsung NOT Working On Galaxy Gear Smartwatch 2, Despite Exec Saying Original Version ‘Lacks Something Special’

Despite the rumors, Samsung denies the rumors that they are working on Galaxy Gear Smartwatch 2, a second generation of the Smartwatch following reports after its recent release that the original is lacking.

Samsung rolled out its latest smartphone and Galaxy Gear Smartwatch in Korea and 57 other countries on Wednesday, The Chosun Ilbo reports.

However, an unidentified Samsung official told the Korea Times in an interview published on Wednesday, that the company has "acknowledged that our [Galaxy] Gear [Smartwatch] lacks something special," Android Community reports.

The executive said that Samsung plans to increase "investment for user interface and user experience."

This is very different from how Lee Young-hee, executive vice-president for marketing, has talked about the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. He's called it everything from a "wow product" to a "wholly new" and "must-have accessory," Android Community reports.

Young-hee touched on earlier rumors that Samsung was already working on a second generation Galaxy Gear.

He denied the rumors of the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch 2, which was believed to come with a host of enhancements that would make it less "lacking," CNET reports.

CNET believes Young-hee's statement may have something to do with the fact that the company is just kicking off sales on its current-generation product, and is focusing on that before gearing up for an updated version.

The Korea Times interview also revealed that the Smartwatch is getting support for the Galaxy S 4 in October and for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 2 by the end of December.
