Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch: Wearable Device Will Be Supported By Galaxy S4 By October, Smartwatch Now Available In 58 Countries

Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, one of the first high-profile wearable gadgets made available for consumer release will be supported by Samsung Galaxy S4 by October, according to the executive vice president of the company’s mobile division, Lee Young-hee.

The smartwatch that has a built-in camera, 1.63-inch AMOLED touchscreen and 70 apps was also made available Wednesday in 58 countries as the South Korean tech giant looks to make in roads in other markets.

According to the Guardian, the Samsung bested Apple, Microsoft and Google in becoming the first to launch a smartwatch, which will create a new market that is predicted to rapidly grow in the coming years.

“Smartwatches will be the most important new product category in consumer electronics since the iPad defined the market for tablets,” Chris Jones, vice president of technology analyst firm Canalys told the Guardian.

“Software platforms tied to smartwatches will also be a tremendous opportunity for developers to write apps in categories such as health and wellness or sports and fitness.”

This is key reason why the Samsung Galaxy S4 will begin supporting the Galaxy Gear. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 will also be supporting the Samsung Galaxy Gear by end of December, reports GSM Arena.

The Verge reported early this month that the Samsung Galaxy Gear will be made available in the U.S. by October for $299.
