Don Jon, Joseph Gordon Levitt's directorial debut, has recieved mixed reviews. Don Jon is a movie about a man addicted to porn starring Scarlett Johansson, and is therefore a controversial subject likely to inspire differing opinions.
While the Don Jon reviews in the LA Times call it a "clever romantic comedy", the Don Jon reviews at Roger Ebert.com call it a "sea of sexism".
According to rogerebert.com, Don Jon uses stereotypical images of women: ""Don Jon" introduces four women, three of whom are the cringe-worthy constructs of teasing harpy shrew girlfriend, overbearing mother and silent witness."
There are also differing reviews about Don Jon's Jersey accent. The LA Times reviews says that Joseph Gordon Levitt wears "that Jersey accent like he was born with it." However, the rogerebert.com reviews say "Almost everyone in "Don Jon" tawks as if he or she were raised in the middle of the Verrazano Bridge by amateur stand-up comedians. The usually talented Los Angeles native Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Joisey accent is a horrific exaggeration."

Joseph Gordon Levitt talked about the reasons he is so private about his girlfriend: "I get up in movies and I play other people, so when the audience is watching me in movies, I don't want them thinking about me and who I'm dating, and blah blah blah. I want them to see the character, the story that I'm telling, you know."
