Henderson Alvarez No-Hitter Sunday Craziest Ever Thanks To Wild-Pitch Of 0-0 Game During Bottom Of 9th With Pitcher Up Next

Henderson Alvarez no-hitter thrown on the final day of the regular season for the Miami Marlins against the Detroit Tigers and it ended in a way never seen before.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, a 0-0 score, based loaded with Henderson Alvarez in the on-deck circle. He was getting ready to hit to secure the no-hitter he thrown for the first nine innings.

For a moment, the 23-year-old Henderson Alvarez thought he pitched a no-hitter until he realized the Marlins still needed to score.

"I was nervous and anxious," he said through a translator at a press conference. "I started praying, 'Please give us a run.' I was hoping for a wild pitch."

His wish came true as a wild pitch was thrown and in came the lone-run of the game, the victory and the no-hitter for right-hander.

The Venezuelan went into the stands to hug his pregnant wife and kiss her belly, but before that, he joined in on the celebration of the final day of Miami's season.

"They were pulling on my jersey and choking me, so I took it off," Alvarez explained at the press conference.

His no-hitter consisted of allowing only one walk. As far the craziness of a walk-off victory to complete the no-hitter, of the 282 no-hitters in history, it was the only one to end on a wild pitch, STATS said.

And it was the first walk-off complete-game no-hitter since Virgil Trucks of the Tigers threw one on May 15, 1952 against Washington.

"That's the beauty of baseball," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "You never know what you're going to see. On the last day of the season, what a treat."
