Brazil World Cup 2014: US Schedule, Roster, Squad Lineup Controversy? Landon Donovan Cut From 23-Man Team

United States forward Landon Donovan is "very disappointed" after being cut from the US' Brazil World Cup 2014 roster, ABC News reports, bringing controversy around the team's squad lineup decision.

"It has been an honor and privilege to have represented the US National Team in three World Cups," Donovan wrote in a Facebook post about the decision.

"I was looking forward to playing in Brazil and, as you can imagine, I am very disappointed with today's decision. Regardless, I will be cheering on my friends and teammates this summer, and I remain committed to helping grow soccer in the US in the years to come."

Coach Jurgen Klinsman mentioned in a video released by U.S. soccer that the decision was a hard one to make. Goodson, Corona, Edu and Boyd were also not included in the roster.

"His disappointment is huge. I totally understand that," Klinsman said in the video.

"He took it very professional, because he's an outstanding professional player and he knows that I have the highest respect for him but I have to make the decisions as of today," he said. "I just think that the other guys right now are a little bit ahead of him and I told him that. And he understands it, but obviously he's very disappointed."
