Scarlett Johansson Superhero Movie ‘Lucy’ Release Date Pushed Up; Scarlett Johansson Hot This Summer

Scarlett Johansson is hot this summer. Scarlett Johansson is hot every summer, and doesn't show much of a chance of cooling in the other seasons, but this summer Johansson will be starring in almost a blockbuster a week. The Scarlett Johansson starrer "Lucy" will be released on the big screen sooner than later to make room for the rest of the summer screeners.

Universal Pictures announced that they moved the release date for their upcoming action film "Lucy," which stars Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, from August 8th to July 25th 2014. Variety speculates that Universal wanted to clear it from the release date of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" release, which is set to hit screens on August 1st. "Lucy" was written and directed by Luc Besson.

Scarlett Johansson recently reprised her role as "The Black Widow," who goes by the nom de plume Natasha Romanoff during the day, in Marvel's  "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." The new Captain America was a huge blockbuster hit. It solidified Scarlett's position as the top female action star. Johansson is also hot off the indie art house sci-fi film Under the Skin, which came out in April.

The reasons for the "Lucy" schedule change move were not immediately clear, according to the Hollywood Reporter, but if the movie was released on August 8t, the movie would have been up against Michael Bay's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Guardians." The new release date (July 25) is also crowded. Paramount will release Brett Ratner's "Hercules," which stars Dwayne Johnson and Columbia will release "Sex Tape," a comedy starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel.

"Lucy" tells the story of a woman, Scarlett Johansson, who is kidnapped and forced to become a drug mule. She is smuggling a dangerous substance that has been surgically deposited into her stomach. When the substance leaks into Lucy's system and gives her heightened mental and physical abilities. Lucy continues to get more powerful until she is able to use "100% of the human brain." At least, that's what Morgan Freeman explains, as he explains things in every movice, according to South Park, in the first Lucy trailer.
