George Springer went 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and his fifth home run in four games in Monday's series opener. Springer is also 13 for 30 (.433) with 13 RBIs and a 1.594 OPS during an eight-game hit streak. He's hitting .343 with eight homers and 20 RBIs in his last 18 games after batting .191 with no homers and five RBIs in his first 17 in the majors, according to ESPN.com.

"This guy is a three-way player. He can impact the game when he's in the batter's box. He can impact the game on defense. He can impact the game on the basepaths. He brings it every day, is what I love about him," manager Bo Porter said.

Jeremy Guthre (2-3, 4.39 ERA) will be on the mound for the Royals to try and slow down this surging Astros offense. Guthrie hasn't won in his last eight starts but he certainly pitched well enough to win when he held the White Sox to one run on three hits in seven innings. He's been on target, issuing just 10 walks in his last nine starts and 60 innings.

"Tremendous," Royals manager Ned Yost said of Guthrie after his last game. "He should have got out of there scoreless. He got the double-play ball [in the one-run second inning], and we couldn't turn it for him.

Collin McHugh (2-3, 3.32 ERA) started the season 2-0 with a 0.59 ERA. Since then, McHugh has gone 0-3 with a 5.16 ERA in his last four starts. He did pitch well his last time out, holding the Angels to two runs and four hits over seven innings in a loss Wednesday.

"I think being [in Houston], and getting a chance to pitch, and getting a chance to have a little bit of consistency, I think has helped me a lot," McHugh told MLB.com.
