‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Spoilers: Kevin Smith Confirms Film Is Not ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel But Part Of ‘Massive Justice League Series!’

The official title of the "Man of Steel" sequel is "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." But just as we have suspected, it's more of a Justice League prequel than the next chapter of Kal-El's saga.

No less than DC insider/loyalist Kevin Smith has confirmed-although we will be quick to warn that Smith is NOT a part of the official production team at Warner. Nevertheless, he has been correct before so his opinion carries some weight. From the podcast "Hollywood Babble-on" he chimes in on his suggestion that 'World's Finest' would have been a better subtitle. The transcription from comicbook.com:

"They're obviously beginning something, and there's a stretch of these flicks. And so this is the beginning of the Justice League, as we all suspected as they were announcing that cast. We were like, 'This is the beginning of a Justice League movie.' From what I understand now, it's no longer like, 'This is Superman 2.' They're not doing these things. They're doing like, 'Here's Man of Steel. Here's Batman/Superman: Dawn of Justice.' The next one is not like a sequel to one of the characters. They're just going to keep building their universe for about five or six movies. But all of them, it's supposed to tell one massive story, which is all Justice League oriented."

Perhaps they took their cue from the complaints about the timeline problems that Marvel encountered. It was not supposed to be a linear timeline throughout the movies and that has caused some confusion. Warner/DC plans to have one set of movies instead of separate character trilogies.

We proceed to the complaints on the title: "[Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice] is a bit of a mouthful. And also, I don't know why Batman V. Superman. Why not just throw the "s" in there? Or spell it or something like that. Or honestly, every comic book fan on the planet, who is a DC comic book fan, I think we all wanted to see Batman/Superman: World's Finest."

It is a valid question if this is Zack Snyder's original vision. Did he really plan on to jump directly into the Justice League or did he have long term plans for Superman? While it seems moot and academic now, if the movie turns into a trainwreck, everyone will unfairly blame Snyder.

But the movie could be great! Let's find out on May 6, 2016.
