Blackberry 10.2.1 Update: Maintenance Release Of OS Now Rolling Out; New Enhancements Applied To Bluetooth, Media & Browser

Blackberry 10.2.1 update: The maintenance release of the Blackberry platform, the BlackBerry 10.2.1 has been made available and is now rolling out in Brazil, Malaysia, and the U.K. Enhancements to Bluetooth, Media and browser functions are all on the new OS upgrade.

N4BB reports that Blackberry 10.2.1.3715 is now available and that the company has reached out to blogs to add clarity regarding which new features we’ll be seeing and which will have to wait.

The U.S.A is at the bottom of the list on the list of countries that will be receiving the update. It’s expected to arrive in the U.S. this June.

Some of the new features available on the new Blackberry update include support for 64GB and higher exFAT MicroSD so you can store more photos, music and files to your BB10-powered device.

Based on a timetable published by NB44, the Blackberry OS 10.2.1 update is expected to start rolling out in the following regions pending carrier availability:

Europe Middle East and Africa – Starting May 27
Asia Pacific : Starting May 27
Canada: Starting May 27
Latin America: Starting mid-June
USA: We expect availability starting late-June

As part of Blackberry’s quest to regain its lost market share to the likes of Apple, Samsung and Sony, the company is expediting a new range of devices that will appeal to both the BlackBerry classic user and the smartphone fan.

It’s expected that the company will be releasing the BB classic Blackberry Q20 this year, encouraged by some momentum brought about by the launches of the Blackberry Z3 and Blackberry Z10.

Blackberry is the former market leader for handsets, having up to 40% of market share at its peak. Today, it has lost 90% of its glory, capturing only four percent of the mobile device market worldwide.

Earlier reports have noted that the Ontario-based electronics manufacturer was at one point considering selling its mobile division.
