Microsoft Surface 2 Review, Specs: Windows RT 8.1 Tablet Incl. W/ 10.1-Inch ClearType HD Display, 2GB RAM & Tegra 4 Processor Still Worth Buying?

Microsoft Surface 2 review, specs: The Windows RT 8.1 table Microsoft Surface 2 has a 10.1-inch ClearType HD display, 2 GB of RAM and a Tegra 4 processor. It has a high-quality camera and a well designed built that exudes both class and proves itself in function. With the arrival of the Surface 3 Pro, is Surface 2 still a good lower-end alternative?

Based on some reviews, a downside with the Surface 2 is though it has a great look and feel, its lack of app support is still a downer. Not to mention that it possesses a watered down version of the Windows 8.1.

According to CNET the Microsoft Surface 2 has a sturdy build and high-quality camera. It also comes with a free Office 2013 ($139 value) and is easier to use than before. The tablet has built-in photo-editing tools and Xbox Music are fantastic features. CNET also notes that thanks to a new kickstand angle, the tablet is less likely to fall off your lap.

A downside that CNET said about the unit is that it still lags behind competitors when it comes to app support. Windows RT, the tech site said is still incompatible with with legacy programs. It’s too easy to mistakenly push the tablet into lower stance, and the touch pad on the Type Cover 2 isn’t as comfortable as it was on the previous version.

CNET is not the only site that highlighted some downside of the Microsoft Surface 2. Trusted Reviews said that the “Surface 2 is a solid but unspectacular tablet.” The tech review site said that the screen is good but the speakers are dire and though the design is nice, it’s bulky and less refined than the iPad Air.

According to Trusted Reviews, there are many faults why the Surface 2 is not getting an outright buy recommendation. A key reason are the numerous alternatives available. TR says that the Asus Transformer Book T100 offers the same performance and battery life for less than $200 and offers full Windows 8.1

Phone Arena cites that the camera lacks flash and it has a low pixel density screen and also lacks a global positioning system.

Nonetheless though, both CNET and Trusted Reviews says that the unit is basically a decent buy.

“The Microsoft Surface 2 is great for getting work done,” notes CNET. Trusted Reviews writes that the “Surface 2 is good tablet if you must have full Office experience on the go, but for anyone else there are better options out there.”

The Surface 2 version of 32GB is priced at $449 and the 64GB is available for $549.devices, namely the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, it falls short of having an edge in key specs.
