‘X-Men Apocalypse’ Cast Rumors: Lupita Nyong’o As Storm? Sequel Set In 1980s Requires Recast! Fans Already Petition For Academy Award Winner For Weather Witch Role!

As "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is officially a part of movie history now, we should proceed to the next film, "X-Men: Apocalypse." The time travel allowed Fox to have a 'clean slate.' They are also allowed a complete recast. This early, the clamor for Lupita Nyong'o as Storm has hit a chord among the fans.

With the continued demand for more diversity among superhero characters, Storm is almost impossible to discard. She's African and a female who has also become leader of the X-Men (at least in the comic books). While the general viewing public would not complain about Halle Berry's portrayal, she is not untouchable in the mold of Hugh Jackman - Wolverine. Besides, it has been confirmed that the setting for "Apocalypse" is in the 1980s-the original characters should be younger than they first appeared.

For a younger Ororo Munroe (Storm's real name) the fans choice is clear and easy: Lupita Nyong'o, recent Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress and a really cool chick.

But why would an Oscar winner play a part in a superhero movie specifically at the onset of her prime? For one thing, the number of Academy Award winners in Superhero movies is increasing. Robert Redford was in "Captain America 2" and Sir Ben Kingsley in "Iron Man 3." Also, the quality of superhero movies is vastly improving. The last three superhero blockbusters yielded what some critics proclaimed as 'the best franchise superhero movie that Marvel/Fox has made.'

For reasons specific to Nyong'o, Moviepilot had this to say: "Now you may be wondering what the chances are that Lupita would even be considered for this role. Considering Lupita is currently a hot commodity in Hollywood right now off of her Oscar success, you can expect several studios to be eyeing her for various projects!"

Nyong'o did not just prove to be a formidable actress-she also won the hearts of Americans in the Oscars and subsequent appearances. However, it's not like she has as many roles offered as someone like Emma Stone. It's a sad fact but opportunities are still not equal between the two.

So THR suggested: "Even after winning the Academy Award, Nyong'o faces a challenging lack of roles for darker-skinned actresses; says one agent, however: 'If she can find a franchise, a big crossover film, or if she's cast by a significant filmmaker, then she's golden.'"

The near iconic role of Storm would be perfect to boost Nyong'o's mainstream appeal! It will also raise the acting standards for the Fox franchise if they have two young Oscar winning actresses (Jennifer Lawrence is the other) in their cast.

A petition has been filed at change.org, but Fox's top brass should be smart enough to read the writing on the wall.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is released on May 27, 2016 hopefully with Lupita Nyong'o.
