‘Avengers 3' Cast Rumors: Moon Knight To Join The Team? 'Marvel's Batman' Was Referenced In 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier!' Who Is He?

Some of the next possible Marvel characters were teased (not by accident) in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." One of them happens to be the dark, enigmatic character Moon Knight.

It was actually a very subtle reference that was figured out by Moviepilot. It was the scene when  Agent Sitwell confided the list of Hydra targets:

"Well, I'm sure you guys spotted the reference to Stephen (aka 'Doctor') Strange. You're all up on your Sorcerors Supreme, especially when they're not especially hidden...

The thing is, that wasn't the only hero Sitwell gave up some information on.

He also happened to mention that they were having some trouble with a man from Cairo.

Which, admittedly, is pretty darned vague - I mean, there are millions of people from Cairo.

So, presumably, there must be hundreds of Marvel characters who trace their origins back to there...

No?

It's pretty much just the one? But who?

That one thing is the dark, brooding (and quite possibly completely unhinged) Moon Knight."

It's not exactly a surprise because Marvel President Kevin Feige has hinted on Slashfilm:

"Moon Knight's a challenging, but extremely interesting character. We've been discussing various versions of it for years."

According to Marvel Wiki, Moon Knight is Marc Spector-a disillusioned CIA Agent that eventually became a mercenary. The story of his conversion:  "After two tours of duty, he became a field agent of the CIA. There he worked with several people who would later interact with Moon Knight , including William Cross, Amos Lardner, and his own brother, Randall Spector. Randall killed Spector's girlfriend Lisa with a hatchet to keep her from exposing a gun-running scheme; Spector retaliated with a grenade and assumed Randall was dead."

He took several missions he eventually met a Raoul Bushman who was instrumental to his transformation:

"Whereas Spector worked for the money, Bushman seemed to enjoy plunder and killing. When Bushman massacred the inhabitants of Selima, as well as archaeologist Peter Alraune, to find an Egyptian pharaoh's tomb, Spector could stomach no more. He got Alraune's daughter Marlene to safety at the tomb and challenged Bushman, who mortally wounded him in the desert. Spector managed to reach the tomb before he collapsed, and Marlene and the crew laid him beneath an idol of Khonshu. His spirit had an encounter with Khonshu, who promised to save his life in exchange for his service. Spector agreed, although he later considered this encounter a hallucination. Restored to life, he punished Bushman's men, while Bushman himself escaped."

A mercenary who becomes an instrument for revenge! It's like Deadpool becoming the Angel Of Death! Moon Knight had to ally himself with the Avengers (West Coast led by Hawkeye) but the possibility of being a solo warrior at Marvel with his own movie. Since Deadpool is with Fox now, they could use Moon Knight!
