Sir Elton John And David Furnish Wedding Update: Hitmaker Says Jesus Christ Would Have Supported Gay Marriages If He Was Alive

Sir Elton John and David Furnish wedding is said to take place next year. Despite the perspective of the Christian church regarding same-sex marriages, the 67-year-old singer thinks that Jesus Christ would have supported gay unions if he was alive.

If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen," he told Sky News.

"He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that's what the church should be about," continued the 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' hit maker.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish wedding is yet to take place but the couple already has children - Zachary, three, and Elijah, 20 months. The 'Your Song' hit maker believes that some churches are already becoming more open-minded.

"As long as I'm alive I will fight for people's rights," claimed John who likewise planned to meet Russian president Vladimir Putin. Russia is known for its anti-gay policies.

"I'm going to Russia in November, and I will try and meet Putin and I will try to talk to him. I don't know what good it will do. But unless you build a bridge - it's no good putting up a wall and saying I'm not talking to these people. The only thing that gets solved is by talking to people," John said.

In August 2013, 'Prison Break' actor Michael Scoffield refused to be St. Petersburg International Film Festival's guest of honor because of Russia's then newly adopted anti-gay laws.

"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly," wrote the Britain-born actor in a letter addressed to the festival's director.
