Upcoming LG Phones 2014: This 'Mini' Android Handset Is Definitely Among The Big Boys When It Comes To Specs

For the past couple of years, Android OEMs have been developing 'mini' versions of their respective flagship devices. Since the Galaxy S3 mini, Samsung has been developing smaller editions of its high-end devices, and so does HTC with its One mini lineup. Meanwhile, Sony has reinvented that strategy and has shrunk its Xperia Z1 into a smaller handset that packs the same specs.

LG has also joined the 'mini' revolution when it launched the G2 mini last February. And for its newest flagship, the LG G3, another smaller handset is rumored to be in the works.

However, even before the LG G3 mini makes its debut another handset with the 'mini' monicker has surfaced.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Android handset, dubbed as the LG Beat, is a 'mini' phone that boasts a 5-inch display with an unknown resolution, but it is safe to predict that it will be in the HD (1280 x 720) category.

Other specs include a quad-core CPU running at 1.2GHz, a 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot, and 4G LTE connectivity.

Additional specs include a microSD card slot, a huge 2,500mAh battery that should help the phone last a day with moderate use, and Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box.

Right now, we do no know whether the LG Beat is actually the G3 mini, though rumored specs for the latter are certainly on the lower end of the spectrum.

Considering the efforts of LG's rival Samsung to dominate the home market in Korea, the company could be preparing this handset solely for the Korean market. We will brin you more details about the Android powered device in the next few weeks.

In the report, the LG Beat should be officially launched in July with a price tag of around $400.
