Motorola Moto G Google Play Edition Gets The Android 4.4 Kit Kat Treatment, Brings System Improvements

The Motorola Moto G is the best and most popular smartphone released by the manufacturer in a long while, and because of its huge success, the manufacturer has followed suit with the Moto G 4G LTE and the Moto E midrangers.

The Moto G became very popular in the US that in spite its midrange status, Google decided to make a Google Play Edition of it.

Unfortunately for this GPE edition of the Moto G, it is among the least known GPE devices from Google as the standard Moto G from Motorola became the staple handset for Android beginners and switchers.

For the few users who have bought it, it is also a shame that the device did not get the Android 4.4.3 Kit Kat update in spite being a GPE version.

Fortunately, Google has not forgotten it.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat has is now rolling out for the Moto G GPE edition, and should arrive in a few days.

In the report, the update is around 116MB and changes the build number of your Moto G GPE from KTU8P4 to KOT49H.

In case you missed it, version 4.4.4 will include a number of bug fixes, security and performance enhancements to further prolong the 'life' of your Moto G GPE.

Unfortunately, with the 4.4.4 update arriving way behind the Nexus devices, it is more likely that the Moto G GPE would not get Android 4.5 L or tipped to be Lollipop when it goes live in the next few months.

A few months ago, Motorola has been bought by Lenovo from Google, and after the deal, the search giant decided to keep some valuable Moto projects such as Project Ara, the modular smartphone which we failed to see during the I/O Conference. Hopefully, the rumored handset would be unveiled soon.
