'Candy Crush Saga' Maker Is Bought By Activision Blizzard, Is This The End For 'Candy Crush'?

"Candy Crush Saga" creator King Digital Entertainment has just been sold to Activision Blizzard.

Everyone knows about “Candy Crush” and “Candy Crush Saga,” particularly for it’s addictive gameplay that took the world by storm. While it may have been the most popular game by developer King Digital Entertainment, there are quite a number of other fun games under King’s name.

"With a combined global network of more than half a billion monthly active users, our potential to reach audiences around the world on the device of their choosing enables us to deliver great games to even bigger audiences than ever before,” said Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard CEO, reported by BBC.

The deal was worth a whopping $5.9 billion with hopes that Activision would be able to make it a global leader in interactive entertainment across different gaming platforms.

Gamezone reported that the “Candy Crush Saga” generated $2.1 billion in revenue where their games were played more than 1.5 billion times per day.

With the popular “Candy Crush Saga” and “Candy Crush Soda Saga” under the company that developed the world’s best selling “Call of Duty” series, the future looks bright now that Activision has stepped in.

“"For Activision, it will provide a step-change in its penetration of the mobile gaming channel, which is the fastest growing segment of the video games market,” said Edison Investment Research’s Analyst Eric Opara on BBC.

"For King, it offers the potential to leverage its mobile and social gaming expertise across Activision's large games portfolio and reduces its reliance on its own blockbuster games like 'Candy Crush,'" he continued.
