"Star Trek” TV series is getting a reboot.
The “Star Trek” began in the 1960s with a television series that became a cult phenomenon spanning decades. That popularity made it into a commercial franchise success as a number of films continued on the legacy even up to the present days. No one expected that from its humble “Star Trek” TV series it would blow up into a huge fandom.
“There is no better time to give 'Star Trek' fans a new series than on the heels of the original show’s 50th anniversary celebration,”said President of CBS Television Studios David Stapf on the Star Trek Official Website. “Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we’re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.”
Alez Kurtzman is an American film and television writer, producer and director who has writeen for blockbuster films such as “ The Legend of Zorro,” “Mission: Impossible 3,” Watchmen,” Star Trek” and “The Amazing Spiderman 2.”
According to io9, the series will premiere in January 2017 with a preview episode on CBS and then move exclusively to the CBS video streaming service “CBS All Access.” The “Star Trek” TV Series will be specifically developed for the streaming service.
“The brand new “Star Trek” TV series will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966,” stated in the official press release
In other news, “Star Trek: Beyond,” the most recent film installment in the “Star Trek” franchise, has been confirmed for a theatre release in July 2016.
