'Witcher' Movie Release Date Announced, Geralt Makes Big Screen Debut With Film Adaptation

“Witcher” movie release date has just been announced.

It’s about time that a “Witcher” movie release date was announced as the franchise lacked a full feature film. The franchise started with a series of short stories and novels, expanded to a video game series, got turned into a film and television series (also knowsn as “The Hexer”) and even got a graphic novel series.

Andrzej Sapowski’s fantasy series is following the footsteps of the many successful books to film franchises.

According to Gamezone, the Sean Daniel Company, the same company that produced “The Mummy” film, has moved on to work on Sapkowski’s fantasy series. The company announced its partnership with Platige, a motion picture company, to turn “Witcher” into a film.

While there is already a Polish version of the novel, the new “Witcher” movie will be made specifically for Western audiences.

Gamerant reported that the live action film will be directed by Oscar nominated director, Tomasz Baginski, and the script will be written by Thania St. John. St. John has written for NBC’s fantasy series “Grimm” and already has experience in writing for the fantasy genre.

Baginski, on the other hand, had previously directed the opening cinematic sequences for the first two games in “The Witcher” series, as reported by Nerdist.

Contrary to the initial speculations, the new “Witcher” film will be based on Sapkowski’s stories about Geralt’s adventures and will be focusing on “The Lesser Evil Tales” and “The Witcher.”

Geralt is a monster hunter for hire who has nearly superhuman physical and mental abilities. This is all thanks to his training and mutations. He even has the nickname “The White Wolf.”

Details on the “Witcher” film is being kept under wraps, there isn’t even a confirmed list of actors yet, the “Witcher” movie release date is set for 2017.
