"Gravity Falls" creator Alex Hirsch has been quite mum about the fate of the animated series and have yet to confirm the season 3 for the show. But he has been leaking hints about the cartoon's Disney future and even a possible "Rick and Morty" crossover.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the California Institute of Arts graduate revealed why there were easter eggs between the two animated series but did not directly address a possible crossover for the characters.
"We started putting little easter eggs in our shows that sort of connected the two," the animator told Entertainment Weekly last month. "Our motivation for that is primarily to freak people out and blow their minds. The impression of a grand brilliant design is probably more something that the fans have invented."
"I can't say whether or not there will be more, but I can say that we like to confuse and amuse people so who the hell knows," he added.
While a "Rick and Morty" and "Gravity Falls" crossover remains unclear, the possibility of a season 3 also has not been clarified as well. Chatting with Crave Online, Alex Hirsch has opted not to comment about the matter.
"Is this the end or the beginning?" he replied to the source above as quoted by Moviepilot when asked whether season 2 was the end of the animated series. "What could happen next? Right now unfortunately I cannot comment on those questions."
The California Institute of Arts alum did say though that more strange things will happen on the show.
"This is one giant, epic, multi-part story," the animator said about "Gravity Falls" pre-season 3. "The stakes are going to be higher, the situations are going to be stranger, the magic is going to be bigger, and we will see every character again in some fashion having to deal with this completely unusual situation. You've never seen anything like this before."
