One week from now, the much awaited battle between Miguel Cotto versus Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will go down as one of the most historied rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Cotto presents the advantage in experience while Cotto is a physical specimen brimming with potential. Thus, the odds are a bit more on the Mexican Alvarez side but for trainer Freddie Roach, they got the strategy to knockout the 25 year-old.
Although Roach admits that Alvarez is a force to be reckoned with, he said that technique will conquer even the strongest puncher. Just ask Juan Manuel Marquez with his knock-out punch on the powerful puncher Manny Pacquiao.
However, Roach said Cotto is not only skillful, but also powerful. Thus, Alvarez will finally experience his first ever knock-out.
"This is a different caliber of fighter," Roach said referring to Cotto. "I think this is the best fighter Alvarez has ever fought. I think he's been fighting hand-picked opponents. You know, Mayweather is a tough fighter, but not a big puncher."
Roach's statement is backed up by Cotto's previous fights. The Puerto Rican has a very powerful left hook which sent at least six opponents down to the canvass. That list includes champions like Sergio Martinez and Daniel Geale.
"[Cotto]'s punching power is improving, and he's using every bit of his body weight to do that, and that's something we're working on and he's punching very well," Roach said via Sports World News. "And I feel like this guy gets hit too much, and I think Miguel will knock him out somewhere along the way."
