“Ghost In The Shell” movie is getting a new addition to their cast.
The original animated “Ghost In The Shell” movie in 1995 made it big in Japan, but that was also because it already had a very strong fanbase that began with the manga written by Masamune Shirow. This film was only the beginning as a television series was made a few years after.
Now, the Japanese manga franchise will now explore western shores as a new “Ghost In The Shell” movie is currently in development.
Scarlet Johanssen is set to star in the live-action “Ghost In The Shell” movie, as the female protagonist Major Motoko Kasunagi, and will be joined by the Danish Actor Pilou of “Game Of Thrones.” According to Variety, Asbæk take on the role of Batou, the film’s primary male character.
Batou, for those not familiar with the manga or the story, is a large heavy set man with artificial eyes and is known to be one of Section 9’s best fighters after Major Motoko Kasunagi. He is also known to be Kasunagi’s second-in-command, as reported by IGN.
While it is too early to tell whether adding Asbæk is a good move, but what is certain is that the two leads will definitely have good chemistry as they have worked together before in the film “Lucy.”
“Ghost In The Shell” started as a manga series and followed the story of a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9. It follows Motoko Kasunagi, a cyborg, and her investigation of a mysterious hacker who is known as the “Puppet Master.”
The upcoming “Ghost In The Shell” movie opens in theatres on March 31, 2017 where Rupert Sanders is set to direct the live-action film adaptation and Jonathan Herman is in charge of the script.
