Jon Stewart Strikes HBO Deal After 'Daily Show' Exit, Is The Cable Channel Making A Talk Show?

Jon Stewart will be coming back on air soon after scoring a deal with HBO. The news came just three months after getting off the limelight upon leaving "Daily Show" in August. Does the cable TV channel have a talk show on the way?

As reported by Deadline, the comedian inked a four-year deal with the cable channel just two weeks ago. But fans of the former TV talk show host won't be seeing him sitting behind the desk and grilling some guest on the hot seat. According to the report, Stewart will be focusing first on producing digital content for HBO as it aimed to boost its app and digital presence via HBO Now.

It was not clear whether a talk show might be in the works for Stewart as well on HBO. But as mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter in their report, additional projects may come for the former talk show host soon.

Executives of the cable channel were confident on what Stewart will contribute to the network.

"Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the 'Daily Show,'" HBO programming President Michael Lombardo said in a statement as cited by the source above. "He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we're thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career."

Even Stewart himself was excited for his new venture with no worries.

"Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me," he was quoted in saying by The New York TImes. "I'm pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again."

It was only last August when the former talk show host was last seen on air. But even then as told by the Daily News, Stewart did not close his doors for coming back to television.

"This show isn't ending, we're merely taking a small pause in the conversation - which by the way, I have hogged," Jon Stewart said in his last night on the "Daily Show" as cited by the source above. "We're just taking a pause, so rather than saying goodbye or goodnight, I'm just gonna say, 'I'm gonna go get a drink and I'll see you around.'"
