Confirmed Monsters Appearing In 'Godzilla 2'; 'Godzilla Vs Kong' Set For 2020

Three monsters have been confirmed to appear in "Godzilla 2."

First is Mothra, a moth-like monster which debuted in 1964's "Mothra vs. Godzilla" will appear in the reboot sequel.

Rodan, a dragon-like creature has the special ability of emitting powerful shockwaves when he flies; the beast made his first appearance in 1956.

Finally, King Ghidora, a the three-headed monster is the series' first villain, which turned Godzilla into an antihero. The monster first appeared in "Ghidora: the Three-Headed Monster" 1964.

Below is Legendary's official press release confirming the latest additions.

"Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla in May 2014 with an agreement to release Godzilla 2 on June 8, 2018. Both films feature the human Monarch organization," reads Legendary's statement. "Shortly following Legendary's pact with NBC Universal, Legendary acquired rights to additional classic characters from Toho's Godzilla universe, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah."

Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla" reboot became such a box office success that the studio already locked him down for "Godzilla 2." The sequel's release will be followed by "Kong: Skull Island," and now Screen Rant confirms that Warner has added a "Godzilla vs. Kong" the their slate.

"Audiences really responded to Godzilla," Thomas Tull, Legendary CEO said in a statement. "Today, I'm excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I've always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we're pleased to be announcing that and more."

"This paved the way for developing a franchise centered around Monarch and anchored by Godzilla, King Kong, and other famous creatures."

All the films will be tied together by the Monarch organization which was introduced in the 2014 reboot film.

"Kong: Skull Island" is currently filming, targetting a release sometime in 2017.

Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla 2" opens in theaters on June 8, 2018.

The release date of "Godzilla vs. Kong" is set for sometime in 2020.
