Finally, the time has come for the world to see who will come out victorious between Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto versus Mexican Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
This will not only be a championship match, but the pride of their respective countries is on the line as this fight renews the storied rivalry between the two countries. Canelo Alvarez will rely mostly on his youth and physical tenacity while Cotto expects that his experience and knockout power will be enough to seal the win.
Also, Freddie Roach (representing Cotto) and Oscar De La Hoya (promoting Alvarez) weighed in on the fight and what they think both fighters will do to be victorious.
For De La Hoya, they know that Cotto is working hard on his stamina and that gave him the idea that Cotto will try to go the last round and outbox his fighter.
"We hear that Cotto is throwing 300 punches a round, they have him training extra rounds," said De La Hoya via Boxing Scene.
"So my philosophy behind that is that they want to drown 'Canelo.' They want to go in there and drown him in the latter rounds and try and take him into deep waters and get him tired. 'Canelo' is prepared for it. Look, the Floyd Mayweather fight, the Erislandy Lara fight, the Austin Trout fight - he's gone 12 rounds a lot of times."
Roach, meanwhile, believes Alvarez has no knock-out power as seen on the Mayweather fight.
"This is a different caliber of fighter," Roach said referring to Cotto. "I think this is the best fighter Alvarez has ever fought. I think he's been fighting hand-picked opponents. You know, Mayweather is a tough fighter, but not a big puncher."
