"Hunger Games" prequel is in the works?
The "Mockingjay, Part 2" film was recently released and brings the "Hunger Games" trilogy to a close. After all the fights, deaths, and bouts of rebellion in Panem, its citizens and game victors can now move forth into their own individual stories.
While the story or Katniss Everdeen is now over, the demand for more from the franchise has increased from fans and even movie executives.
"For me, 'Hunger Games' is Katniss and we've told her story," said producer Nina Jacobson on io9. " "[But] any time Suzanne Collins wants to tell more stories from the world, sign me up."
The director of the final film, Francis Lawrence, is keen on going back into the worl of Panem. Particularly, for a prequel set 75 years before Katniss ended the "Hunger Games."
“The interesting part of the story for me is to go back 75 years earlier and see how everything became the way it is,” said Lawrence on EW.
“I’m sure if [author] Suzanne [Collins] were to get inspired and decide there’s another story that’s important for her to tell that exists within the world of Panem and whether about the Dark Days, another character, or another set of Games, whatever that could be, I’m sure it would be great."
It may seem like a great idea but the story would then lack one vital ingredient. An iconic character, much like Katniss Everdeen, is needed to help propel the story.
"The Hunger Games" is a series of adventure novels written by American author Suzanne Collins. It is set in a dystopian world called "Panem," a country that consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve districts experiencing varying degrees of poverty. Here children are chosen to participate in an annual televised battle royale called the "Hunger Games" to retain order in the country.
