Following his win against Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is all fired up and is currently in the best position to cement his name in boxing history.
He defeated Cotto via unimous decision last Nov. 21 and for fans wondering who and when will be Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez next fight, read on.
After the fight, Alvarez was asked if he is now ready to fight knockout artist, Gennady Golovkin. According to the champion, he didn't want to comment on that out of respect for Cotto. But now, he is definitely buying into the idea of him and Golovkin squaring of in the boxing ring.
"Before I didn't want to answer out of respect for my current opponent," Alvarez said via Opening Round, "but if you want me to fight him right now, I'll put the gloves on right now and fight him right now.
However, he will need to sit down with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya first before his next fight is finalized. According to The Golden Boy, the weight class will be a major concern for them as for this fight to happen, they will need to agree to a catch-weight fight.
"That's exactly what we're [Canelo] going to sit down and talk about," De La Hoya said. "It's very interesting because there's the Triple G fight. There's obviously other fights at 154. I have to get a feel for what Canelo wants to do. What his body tells him to do," De La Hoya said.
But De La Hoya confirmed that the Genady Golovkin fight is happening sooner or later as his fighter only wants the best opponents.
Making the weight; he made 154 ½, I believe. So the question is will he stay at 154 or stay at 160. Those are the things we're going to talk about. I'm not saying he's going to fight somebody else. I'm not announcing anything. We're going to talk about it. Is he going to fight Triple G? Absolutely, of course. It's not a question. Canelo is willing to fight anybody," De La Hoya said.
