Following the recent firing of Kevin McHale as head coach of the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban speaks up on how hard it is to hire a head coach.
The Rockets are currently struggling to find a winning formula that could get them going. They currently stand at 5-9 and interim head coach J.B. Bicketstaff isn't experiencing much success either as he currently stands at 1-2 as the head coach.
According to the outspoken owner, the hardest part of being an owner is hiring a new head coach as they probably know the weaknesses of the team and that's what they use to present after much research and the worst part is, if it doesn't pan out.
"So I've said it before, the hardest thing for an NBA owner to do is hire a coach," Cuban said via NBC Sports. "The easiest thing to do is fire a coach. The reason it's hard to hire a coach, coaches are great at date-face, they know exactly what your weaknesses are and they know exactly how to sell to those weaknesses, so it's really difficult to pick it right and it's 90 percent luck."
Fortunately for Cuban, he is not experiencing that trouble with his head coach, Rick Carlisle, after signing him to a five-year extension.
"If the hardest thing to find is a good coach, you marry him, you put a ring on it," Cuban said.
Talking about the Rockets, it seems a bit hard to believe that McHale is the reason for their poor start. The Hall of Famer led this exact, same team to the Western Conference Finals last season, only to stumble at the beginning of this season. According to NBC Sports, James Harden is reportedly not in ideal shape, Howard is struggling with injuries and Lawson can't seem to figure out how to fit in.
