New "Riddick" TV series is happening.
"The Chronicles of Riddick" franchise already has a number of films under its belt, as well as an animated film, two video games, one motion comic, a mobile game and even two models. While it didn't do as well as it was hoped in theatre, the franchise was able to gain what they've lost through the success of their other projects.
The only thing missing is a new "Riddick" TV series to provide more stories and adventures beyond the world that the films have shown.
"'Merc City' is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe," said Vin Diesel on his Instagram last Friday. This takes on a different perspective of the "Riddick" universe, as in the film the main character is being tracked down by mercenaries and bounty hunters.
The new "Riddick" TV series isn't the only thing to look forward to as it was reported that there will be a fourth installment in the franchise. The title "Furia" was announced on his Instagram post as well. io9 reported that Diesel's company, One Race films, will be handling the film as well as the television show.
Director David Twohy will start on working on the first script for "Furia" next month.
There are no further details disclosed by Vin Diesel about the possible plot of the fourth film, however it could possibly cover the mysterious and dark past of "Riddick."
Release dates for "Merc City" and "Furia" have not yet been announced.
"The Chronicles of Riddick" is a 2004 American science-fiction adventure film. The film follows Richard B. Riddick who has been hiding for five years in an effort to evade bounty hunters and mercenaries. He gets reunited with a man he rescued named Imam who believes that Riddick is a Furyan. The furyan is a race of warriors who have been thought to be extinct.
The film did not do well in theatres but it did become successful on DVD and has gained a loyal following since then.
