Although the Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez versus Miguel Cotto fight has finally reached its conclusion, talks on the outcome of the match are still debated and the scores were simply outrageous, so they say.
Count undefeated boxer, now-retired Floyd Mayweather Jr. to that list of people. According to him, there are no questions that Canelo won the fight. However, he believes the scores were inaccurate and should have been a lot closer.
"Do I think that Canelo won? Absolutely. Canelo won the fight, but it wasn't no 119-109," Mayweather said via Bleacher Report. "Those crazy scores [119-109 and 118-110] that they had was ridiculous. I think Nevada has the best commission in the world, and I'm not just saying that because I live here. I'm saying that because they are fair with everyone."
Mayweather Jr. added that the officiating in Nevada is definitely clean and fair. But he thinks there might be someone who is pulling the strings in terms of picking the judges.
"Not just me; they are very fair with everyone, but I do think the fight was a lot closer than 119-109. That is f-----g ridiculous. In my opinion, I'm not saying this is what happened, but in my opinion, either somebody is handpicking these judges or something is going on that's not right."
He also hinted that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya might have something to do about this as all of his fights involving the Golden Boy is somewhat scored inaccurately.
"They said my fight with Oscar De La Hoya was a split decision, which we all know was some b------t," he said. "When I faced Canelo, one of the judges scored it a draw. I got a split decision with Oscar, I got a majority decision with Canelo and you seen what just happened Saturday night. I'm just saying."
