Adele seemingly got it right. Flip phones were still in as mobile giant Samsung has released an android version of the clamshell phone just recently. It might become available in just one country or continent though.
As reported by The Guardian, Samsung's new flip model called SM-W2016 looked so much like a Galaxy S6 that has just been made into a clamshell. Although it looks quite old school, the 2015 flip model boasts of 64 GB storage and 3 GB of RAM. Citing details from Sammobile, the report also said that the new clamshell will run on Android Lollipop. It will also feature a 16 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera.
While many fans of the flip phone rejoiced over the new SM-W2016 from Samsung, there's a catch though. The clamshell phone first appeared only in China and there are no details yet on whether it will only be sold in the said country of be available for the rest of the world as well. There was no release date mentioned as well according to Tech Times.
Though no date has yet to be announced regarding its availability, Samsung's China Website also described the new clamshell will be encased in both metal and glass. It will also feature wireless charging at the swiftest of time.
GSM Arena also mentioned that "the SM-W2016 measures 120.4 x 61 x 15.1mm" and will only weigh 204g.
There's no telling yet if 2016 will be the comeback of flip phones. But prior to Samsung's tease of a clamshell, LG has launched the flip model bandwagon. Just this summer they released their own old school style phone as told by CTV News. Its specs though do not compare to the SM-W2016. The LG Wine Smart has 4 GB of storage with expandable storage and has 1 GB of RAM according to Gadget 360. Its camera also don't go beyond 3 MP.
