V App Launches Real-Time Chinese Subtitles On Celebrity Streams

Chinese fans watching their favorite K-Pop idols on the livestreaming app V will no longer have to wonder what they are saying.

The popular app has begun offering real-time Chinese subtitles, and is part of the wider effort to expand its multinational language services, reports The Korea Herald.

The launch of the Chinese subtitles on V App follows a test run which began last month, including that for real-time English subtitles.

One of the first shows that was broadcast with real-time Chinese subtitles was a one-hour show featuring CNBLUE bassist Lee Jung Shin, and as expected, there was a significant uptick in the number of Chinese fans that tuned in to the show, according to reports.

A representative in charge of V app, which was made by Naver, said that the Chinese subtitles is only the first step in the company's goal of offering many other language services to live broadcasts.

Shows in the Upcoming section of the app will be at first be prioritized because of the high anticipation surround them, the representative said. Naver plans to add subtitles to the replay versions of other shows that were not streamed with real-time subtitles, which should be a consolation for international fans.
