‘Kick-Ass 3’ And ‘Hit-Girl’ Prequel Update: Will Director Matthew Vaughn Be Able To Revive The Franchise?

Talks about a potential "Kick-Ass 3" release date isn't quite going well following the lukewarm reception of "Kick-Ass 2." However, director of the first installment Mathew Vaughn is not at all giving up on the promising movie franchise.

According to Vaughn, he just knows what to do to revive the franchise and that is to insert a "Hit-Girl" prequel, much like how "First Class" was to the "X-Men" franchise.

Vaughn envisions a side story that will re-introduce Bid Daddy and how he and his daughter, Mindy will go on to become vigilantes.

"We would like to dip our toe back into it... We're working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit Girl and Big Daddy become Hit Girl and Big Daddy. It's quite a fun idea we've come up with," Vaughn told Slash Film.

"If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn't like 'Kick-Ass 2' and then we can go off and make 'Kick-Ass 3.' I think we've got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with 'Kick-Ass.'"

However, creator Mark Millar is not quite enthusiastic of Vaughn's words as it turns out, those were only informal chats and nothing serious came up during those talks. He added that they are working on different projects together at the moment and "Kick-Ass" is not part of that.

"There's really nothing happening here in any official way. Matthew is talking about an idea we had for Hit-Girl but it's just been a few informal chats and we haven't discussed 'Kick-Ass 3' at all," Millar said. "We're getting Superior together at the moment and Matthew is putting some Kingsman sequel ideas together but Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass are not on our radar I'm afraid."
