Gennady Golovkin Next Fight Remains In Limbo; Canelo Alvarez And Andre Ward Match Unlikely

A lot of doors opened after the Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez fight especially for Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin as he has the option to battle the young Mexican and winner of the fight.

Alvarez defeated the older Cotto via unanimous decision last week and the proud Mexican is now looking for the next fighter who would be willing to face him in a boxing ring.

Earlier, there was a big issue surrounding this potential fight as neither of the boxers is willing to do a catch-weight match. The issue stands as according to Canelo's trainer, Eddie Reynoso, his fighter won't be fighting at 160 and would remain at 155 lbs.

Per BoxingScene.com's Ryan Burton report, Reynoso said: "We are ready to fight anyone at 155 pounds. We are very comfortable at this weight. If he wants to come to this weight we will fight anybody."

With that said, it looks like a long shot before this fight gets set in motion. Who are other elite boxers that Golovkin might face? Not Andre Ward.

This time, it's not that Ward is avoiding Golovkin, but the undefeated American said it is the other way around.

"I was willing to fight him anywhere, anytime. I can show you the texts between my people and his people," Ward said via Latin Post. "He just doesn't want to fight me, period. He can come up with any excuse he wants to, but the fact is that the fans will never get to see this fight and it would have been a great one."

Moreover, sports commentator Max Kellerman said that it is too early for both Golovkin and Ward to go head-to-head.

"The fight is not ready yet," Kellerman told Fight Hype. He added that the reason why Golovkin won't take this fight is that Ward is the biggest threat to put a halt on his undefeated streak.
