After the incident in a Boston night club, Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor is quick to realize his mistake and immediately apologized for his actions.
In a video by TMZ, it can be seen that Okafor was exchanging tirades with an unknown person and things got worse after that. The rookie delivered a devastating blow on the man which left him out cold in the ground.
Okafor talked about the incident and he said that he is completely embarrassed by his actions.
"It was definitely dumb on my part and something I'm embarrassed about," Okafor said via CSN Philly. "We're still dealing with the league and with the team, but I'm not happy about it at all. We're going through the whole process of what were going to do."
"The embarrassment of what I did because that's not who I am," Okafor added.
Apparently, the incident stemmed out from the Sixers' very bad start. They are currently winless and is set to break the record for the worst start in NBA history. The fan allegedly taunted Okafor saying his team sucks and Okafor just lost his cool.
"People were just making fun of how we've been losing and I did the dumb thing and reacted to it," Okafor said. "It doesn't happen often. People we're coming at me and making fun of us for losing. I know I'm in the spotlight and I know there are people are going to try to anger you. I did the dumb thing and reacted to it. I'll never handle it like that again."
In an article published by Yahoo Sports, the effects of GM Sam Hinkie's extremely flawed rebuilding plan is now kicking in n the young players, especially Okafor, who just came off from an NCAA championship before being drafted in the NBA. Although this does not excuse Okafor's action, it is clear that more guidance is needed especially for young players.
Is Hinkie still doing the right thing? Sound off in the comment box below.
