The Philadelphia 76ers are currently the NBA's laughing stock as they have yet to win a game this season.
They currently stand at 0-18, tying the league's worst start in a season. Moreover, their prized rookie, Jahlil Okafor is having some off-court issues. Clearly, things are not working out for them. Is it time for GM Sam Hinkie to step down?
In a report by CBS Sports, the three years that Hinkie became the GM, it was nothing more than an asset accumulation, without really building on something solid. An example of that is trading away their former rookie of the year, Michael Carter-Williams for a draft pick.
Clearly, there is no effort in trying to win, which is why players and agents are not at all interested to talk with the management.
"I'm not even sure if it's tanking," said one agent who will never ever associate his clients with the Sixers as long as Hinkie is doing his 'plan.' "You have to think they believe it would've turned a little by now."
"There's nobody there, and nobody will go there," the agent said. "Nobody. Cap space won't matter. You know who'll go there? Guys that are trying to steal money."
Another agent said that Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey's former right hand man (Hinkie), he is not looking at athletes as people.
"When you're building a business culture, you're dealing with human beings," another prominent agent said. "Especially with athletes, you've got to have a rapport with these guys. It's a culture of communication and transparency, and none of that exists."
"The culture you're building, it's all negative," a league source said. "This is a five- or six-year plan with no end in sight."
