New River Song, Peter Capaldi Sonic Screwdrivers To Debut In 'Doctor Who' 2015 Christmas Special

While Whovians are still grieving over the death of Clara Oswald, perhaps this bit of "Doctor Who" news regarding the 2015 Christmas special will brighten things up.

On Tuesday, the episode title for the "Doctor Who" Christmas special was officially announced to be "The Husbands of River Song." There is also a new promo image featuring a Hydroflax, and something interesting in both Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston's hands.

"I'm hoping the new [Sonic Screwdriver] will be the one he gives River prior to the Library rather than a replacement for the Sonic Sunglasses which, despite being skeptical initially, I've now grown rather fond of," commented PaddyB on Doctor Who TV.

As previously reported, the "Doctor Who" 2015 Christmas special is written by executive producer Steven Moffat and will feature Kingston, Greg Davies and Matt Lucas.

"It's Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers," says the synopsis.

"But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song's squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time."

Meanwhile, Whovians still have the "Doctor Who" Season 9 finale coming up this Saturday, and things are not going quite what the Doctor has expected when he finds Gallifrey again.

"The Doctor has a difficult relationship with the Time Lords and now he's going home," said Moffat in a preview video. "He's not quite the lovely man he was before. The Doctor, as it says in the title, this time is 'Hell Bent.'"
